Last year, Ori and the Will of the Wisps got some time on the E3 stage with a gameplay trailer. A year later, we’ve gotten another look at the game, showing off some of the finer details of the sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest. The Ori games are stylish, slightly spooky Metroidvania-style adventures that stand out thanks to their distinct visuals and smooth animation.
Developer Moon Studios is looking to improve on the best aspects of the first Ori title; Will of the Wisps brings some quality-of-life updates and refreshes the advancement system of the first game with a new save system and an upgrade tree that’s less linear.
We also got to see new environments to explore and puzzles to overcome in the world outside the forests of Nibel. A giant spider, lava-spewing beast, and a tentacled monster from beneath the waves were just some of the creatures we saw during the trailer, and they look like they’ll be boss battles. Will of the Wisps keeps the same colorful art style that draws inspiration from myth and fantasy, but we’re seeing now seeing some more varied environments.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is set to be released Feb. 11, 2020 on Windows PC and Xbox One.
