If there’s one thing to be hype about when it comes to Disney’s “live action” remake of the animated classic The Lion King, it’s Beyonce.
And not just because she’s providing Nala’s adult voice, but because she’s performing a new song for the movie, along with curating and producing a new album to coincide with the film, The Lion King: The Gift.
Now, we can take a listen to the first available track from that album, “Spirit,” which will feature in the movie “during a pivotal scene with [...] Nala.”
The Lion King: The Gift is “steeped in the sounds of Africa,” apparent from the very opening notes of “Spirit.”
“This is sonic cinema,” Knowles said in a statement earlier this month. ”This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.”
The Lion King and The Lion King: The Gift will be released on July 19. The soundtrack album will be released tomorrow, July 11.
