Have you been looking for the perfect place to start with Super Mario Maker 2? Well keep looking, because this might be the hardest version of Super Mario Bros. World 1-1 ever made. Named “1-1 but with a twist,” creator and Twitter user Sunny remade the first level from Super Mario Bros. with dozens of twirling fire bars. The “twist” makes the once elementary level nearly impossible to finish. It is enough to scare any newbie away from playing Mario possibly forever.

The level was made in the recently released Super Mario Maker 2. In Mario Maker 2, players are given the tools to make their own Mario Levels from scratch. It’s common for community members to make hard levels; much of the community thrives on it. But, this level is more than just technically difficult to play. It is butt-clenchingly stressful to watch. Other difficult levels in Super Mario Maker 2 require perfect timing and a smooth and polished execution. It’s almost relaxing to see the perfectly timed jumps and runs.

“1-1 but with a twist” is just plain sadistic. Even when completed successfully, Mario looks kind of helpless jumping throughout all the fire.

People have already made a lot of jokes in response to the level.

If you for some reason have some sort of sick drive that beckons you to play this level, you can pick up Super Mario Maker 2 for Nintendo Switch now. Sunny’s course code for “1-1 but with a twist” is YXL-D4C-TQF.
