Netflix’s The Witcher reveals very good horse Roach

Geralt’s got the horses in the back

The first look at Netflix’s The Witcher gave us glimpses of the main cast of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, but one very important character was neglected: Geralt’s trusty steed Roach. Good news, though — Netflix revealed a picture of Henry Cavill riding the very good girl.

Now technically, it’s not just one horse named Roach. Geralt names all his horses Roach. In the books, Geralt prefers mares and swaps out his horses. In the third game, though, there is only one horse, male or female depending on previous choices. The horse is a staple of the game and many players have grown attached to having a good friend.

It appears to be a big cultural zeitgeist for horses. The Red Dead Online inspired “Old Town Road” is maintaining its spot on the Billboard Top 100, spawning various remixes and music videos, and with other horses stealing the spotlight across media. Netflix’s take on Roach will continue this trend, though we’re not sure if this Roach will be a single horse or many horses through. Judging by the previous choice of one sword, the show seems to be leaning more on the books.

Netflix’s The Witcher does not have a set release date, but it’s set to premiere later in 2019.
