Luigi’s Mansion 3 launches on Halloween

What, you expected Veteran’s Day?

luigi fights a boss ghost in luigi’s mansion 3 Next Level Games/Nintendo

To no one’s surprise, Luigi’s Mansion 3 will launch on Halloween for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo confirmed the launch date on Wednesday morning. Really, did anyone think this would arrive on a date other than Oct. 31?

The spoopy adventure/puzzle solver takes gust-boaster (see what I did there?) Luigi and his Poltergust-00 super-sweeper-upper through a haunted hotel on a search for extra towels and the vending machines. Alright, alright, he’s there to rid the place of ethereal pests. Each level is themed and lavishly appointed.

We went hands-on with Luigi’s Mansion 3 at E3 2019, and that included time with the local co-op avatar Gooigi, which we called “a slightly terrifying goo-based clone of our hero.” Because Gooigi is an ectomorph, he can’t open doors, so forget about using him to cheat your way through puzzles. There’s also the Scarescraper mode, which delivers randomly generated floors and objectives for them.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 follows its predecessor by six years (2013’s Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, although that was on the 3DS) and that followed the original, a GameCube launch title, by a dozen years.
