Natalie Portman is female Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder

Taika Waititi returns to direct with Hemsworth in tow

Marvel Studios

Natalie Portman is worthy.

After ducking out of the MCU for the third Thor film, Thor: Ragnarok, Portman will join Chris Hemsworth and return to the franchise under the direction of Taika Waititi in Thor: Love and Thunder.

The film will pull directly from Jason Aaron’s The Mighty Thor run in the comics, which introduced readers to a female Thor. He revealed his vision for doing just that on screen by having Portman walk out on stage holding Mjolner.

Little else is known about the direction of Thor: Love and Thunder — considering Thor was on his way to party with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Avengers: Endgame, there’s some plot holes that’ll need to be filled before it all makes sense. But Tessa Thompson was also on hand at the panel to explain what Valkyrie might be up to now that she’s running New Asgard. “First she needs to find her queen,” Thompson said with a smile.

The announcement was the pure Marvel circus act, complete with Waititi as the greatest showman.

“There’s nothing more powerful than love,” Waititi said jokingly at the panel.

“Or thunder!” Hemsworth chimed in.

“And the combination? I’d drop this microphone but it’s too expensive!”
