The original Doom trilogy — Doom (1993), Doom 2, and Doom 3 — arrives today on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and for mobile platforms, including iOS and Android devices. The announcement was made today during the opening keynote at QuakeCon 2019.
id Software’s Marty Stratton, executive director on Doom Eternal, and Hugo Martin, creative director on Doom Eternal, were on hand to make the announcement.
News of the release leaked out this morning when the Nintendo’s eShop in the United Kingdom put all three games up for sale a few hours early. They were pulled down before being returned to sale shortly before the keynote began. Doom and Doom 2 both cost $4.99, while Doom 3 is $9.99. Doom (1993) has been available on Xbox platforms since 2006.
Of course, Doom has been available on iOS since 2009. But this is the first time that the first two titles are being ported to Android. Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 are currently live on the Google Play Store.
QuakeCon is id Software’s annual conference and fan expo, where the publisher often announces new details about its games. This year the focus is on Doom Eternal, which will be released on Nov. 22. The game is slated for Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
