The Hunt brings a twist to the people-hunting-people genre

Glow’s Betty Gilpin is the new Katniss

The first trailer for The Hunt, the latest thriller from Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Halloween), promises a bloody affair.

The plot sounds straight out of Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game”: wealthy elites hunt humans for sport, but instead of one eccentric billionaire on a remote island taking advantage of shipwrecked loners, it’s a network of eccentric billionaires who kidnap unsuspecting citizens and toss them in Eastern Europe to hunt down. Covert Purge sequel?

The 12 strangers don’t know why or how they were chosen, but with an impressive arsenal of weapons at hand, they must figure out how to survive as the Hunters close in. But Crystal (Glow’s Betty Gilpin), one of the hunted, isn’t going to go down without a fight.

“Of all the people you kidnapped, of all the people you killed, you picked the wrong gang,” she says.

The Hunt also stars Hilary Swank as the mysterious leader of the Hunters, along with Emma Roberts (Scream Queens) and Isaac Barinholtz (The Mindy Project). It comes out on Sept. 27.
