Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 isn’t expected until March 2020, but fans of the classic role-playing franchise will have plenty to keep them occupied until then. In addition to the latest edition of the tabletop game, an adventure game called Vampire: The Masquerade — Coteries of New York is also on the way for Windows PC and Nintendo Switch. Today, developers pulled back the curtain on its Telltale-inspired narrative gameplay.

Draw Distance (formerly iFun4all, makers of Serial Cleaner among others) describe the game as “primarily text-driven.” Players take on the role of a newly-born vampire in New York City, making new Disciples to help fulfill your plans. From today’s press release:

You are embraced into the world of the Kindred by a Sire who swiftly abandons you to your fate. Taken under the wing of an older, scheming vampire, you must learn the ins and outs of your current condition while a nefarious plot unravels around you — and you are unwittingly at the center of it.

As you learn about this bloody society and its role in the modern nights, you meet others like you — young, inexperienced vampires eager to prove themselves — who are regardless more rooted in the Cainite history of New York City than you are. They serve as your guides, windows into the different Clans of Kindred, and, perhaps, some night, friends. What starts as an alliance of convenience might blossom into a true camaraderie… or devolve into bitter antagonism.

An branching point in the narrative for a character named Jezebelle. “Sophie mentioned the Gangrel neonate Tamika, childe of Jezebelle, as one of the Kindred you could take up with. Go to Prospect Park in Brooklyn to meet the remnants of Jezebelle’s brood Draw Distance
A larger map showing the text of Jezebelle’s narrative decision point, overlayed atop a larger map of New York. the streets are blood red and the water is black. Draw Distance
A conversation with a red-headed woman in a black dress, named Valerie. “Let me get this straight. You want me to let that thin-blood off the hook, because you and your disgusting friend think she’s connect to those recent killings? Correct?” Draw Distance
Another conversation tree, this one with a long-haired man in a suit named Quadir. “Dare I say, I was certain I’d be the harbinger of your Final Death before the night was out.” The player has selected the response, “You’d cut me down, just like that?” Draw Distance

Along the way, players will have to manage their hunger and their humanity, as well as maintaining the Masquerade. It all sounds fairly par for the course, so there’s a lot hanging on the quality of the game’s writing.

Expect Vampire: The Masquerade — Coteries of New York to arrive on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC as well as Nintendo Switch in the fourth quarter of 2019.
