The final trailer for Netflix’s Dark Crystal series explores the political fantasy

Join Deet, Rian, and Brea as they rebel

Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance gets an action-packed, plot-heavy trailer just a few weeks from release. The prequel to Jim Henson’s 1982 cult classic The Dark Crystal will premiere on Aug. 30.

The show takes place before the events of Henson’s original movie. A previous teaser showed off the planet of Thra and the beings and creatures that lived within, but this new trailer dives right into the plot. As its title implies, the Gelflings Deet, Rian, and Brea lead a rebellion against the Skeksis, who they learn have been lying to the greater population about what happened to the Crystal of Truth. Because the series draws from Henson’s adult-themed streak rather than his Muppet days, the adventure is expected to be spooky and a little violent.

Taron Egerton (Rocketman), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) star in the main roles, with names like Mark Hamill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Keegan-Michael Key rounding out the secondary cast. True to the Henson tradition, the Gelfings and Skeksis are rendered entirely via puppets — no photorealistic CG here!
