The trailer for Cannon Busters, now on Netflix, gives a glimpse into its genre-bending action

LaSean Thomas’ comic book series finally gets its anime debut

Netflix Original Cannon Busters hits Netflix today, and the platform released a trailer for the series that shows off its flashy animation, quirky ensemble cast, and upbeat soundtrack.

Cannon Busters follows an unlikely trio: there’s Philly the Kid, an immortal outlaw; S.A.M., an aggressively upbeat friendship droid; and Casey Turnbuckle, a maintenance droid. Traveling in Philly the Kid’s shape-shifting Cadillac, the trio embark in search of S.A.M.’s best friend, the missing prince of a besieged kingdom.

The series is based on LeSean Thomas’ (The Boondocks) comic book series of the same name, the first issue of which was released in 2005. A Kickstarter to produce a pilot for an animated adaptation of the series was launched in 2014. Deadline reports that the series was originally slated for release on Netflix in 2017, but was pushed back first to 2018 and then to a 2019 release.

Cannon Busters is currently available to stream on Netflix.
