As if the single parent lifestyle wasn’t already hard

The first images for Netflix’s Raising Dion reveal the ups and downs of single-parenting a superpowered child. The series — produced by Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) and based on a comic of the same name by Dennis Liu — has actually been in development since 2017, but was postponed to avoid superpowered-child overlap with Stranger Things.

Raising Dion follows a single mom named Nicole who’s left to raise her son Dion after the death of her husband. The catch? Dion has telekinetic powers, which have caught the attention of some who want to exploit Dion’s powers. As Nicole raises her son, she starts to discover the mysterious circumstances surrounding her husband’s death and the origins of Dion’s powers.

Alisha Wainwright (Shadowhunters) stars as Nicole, with newcomer Ja’Siah Young as Dion, Jordan as Nicole’s dead husband Mark, and Jason Ritter (Gravity Falls) as Mark’s best friend Pat. Raising Dion premieres on Netflix on Oct. 4.
