Mario Kart Tour coming to Android, iOS on Sept. 25

Kart racing game will feature courses based on New York, Tokyo, and Paris

Nintendo is bringing Mario Kart to mobile devices in September with Mario Kart Tour, a free-to-play version of the classic racing franchise. Mario Kart Tour will be released on Sept. 25 for Android and iOS devices.

Mario Kart Tour will be free to play, and interested players can pre-order the game from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store now. A Nintendo Account is required to play.

The mobile version of Mario Kart will feature classic courses like Rainbow Road, Luigi’s Mansion, Koopa Troopa Beach, and Dino Dino Jungle, based on the game’s beta version, but it will also included new real-world city-inspired courses. Nintendo promises courses based on New York, Tokyo, and Paris. Those city courses, Nintendo says, are “special in-game event courses ... [that] will be available during specific time periods at launch and beyond.” And some Mario Kart characters will get “variations that incorporate the local flavor of cities featured in the game,” Nintendo said in a press release. Players will unlock and collect characters, karts, and gliders as they play.
