Overland, a turn-based tactics game with very good dogs, launches in September

Simultaneous launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC platforms, and Xbox One

Overland, the slick turn-based tactics game from the team at Finji, finally has a proper launch date. Fans can play the finished game on Sept. 19, when it will be available for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC as well as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A launch trailer is now available on YouTube, and embedded above.

In Overland, players begin with a single survivor, a friendly dog, and a broken down beater of a car. The goal is to navigate a post-apocalyptic world beset by bug-like, otherworldly creatures. Individual levels are small, but connected to an overworld map with multiple biomes. Finji has said inspirations include franchises like X-com and The Banner Saga, but also board games like Plaid Hat’s Dead of Winter.

If it feels like you’ve heard of Overland before, it’s likely because the game has been in development for years now. Early versions have been available to the press, and to the public via Itch.io, for some time.

A release for iOS is also in the works.
