Square Enix released a new Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailer today, and if you also got extremely distracted by how handsome all the Turks are in their new, re-rendered glory, there are a few other details in the trailer that we’re seeing for the first time.
Every scene from the trailer is still from the Midgar part of the game, which was to be expected, as the remake will be broken up into different parts, and hyping up the first part take priority. If you’re looking for footage of beloved party members, like Red XIII or Vincent Valentine, you’re going to have to wait.
Aerith in her Don Corneo outfit
Early on in the game, Tifa ventures into Don Corneo’s mansion for information on Shinra and gets stuck there. Aerith and Cloud have to break in to bail her out. Don Corneo loves beautiful women and is a frequent visitor of the local brothel, so the solution here is clear: Aerith has to gussy herself up and sneak in.
However, this trailer does not show the next part of this story, where Cloud puts on a dress and a wig to go in after her. Square Enix knows we want to see that high quality cross-dressing Cloud, and they’re making us wait.

The summons are looking good and have shorter sequences
Final Fantasy 7 had some notoriously long summon sequences. Many would joke that when you summoned Nights of the Round, you could go make yourself a snack, come back, and the cutscene would still be playing. It looks like the animations and attacks for the summons in the remake have been shortened, but they’re not any less enchanting.
HD toads!
Getting turned into a toad is a Final Fantasy franchise favorite. Those wiggly, low-poly animations from the old games is something to behold, but now we get a toad in high quality. When Cloud gets turned into a toad, he gets to keep his Buster Sword on his slimy back, which is a great touch.
If the remake keeps the tradition of toad’ed characters doing a victory animation after completing encounters, this means we might get to see Cloud as a toad, spinning his Buster Sword and putting it on his back. Please, Square Enix.

A more complicated work-out minigame (but not by much)
In the original game, Cloud has to beat out some muscle man in a “who can squat more in a set amount of time” minigame. This has been upgraded from pressing buttons in a sequence to pressing buttons with specific timing in a sequence. Tifa is also seen doing pull-ups against a guy, which is new.
Who’s the new guy?
The trailer also shows a glimpse of a mullet-having dude with a sword on a motorcycle, who doesn’t look like anyone we’ve seen in the original game or the spin-offs. We don’t know much about him, but he is definitely carrying a SOLDIER sword, similar to the one we see Zack Fair carry in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 early on in the game. Cloud also recognizes him in the trailer as a SOLDIER, but nothing beyond that.
