The Witcher, a new Netflix streaming television series, could arrive on Dec. 17. The date was posted, and promptly deleted, by the official Netflix Netherlands account, but not before being spotted by the team at Redanian Intelligence. Polygon has reached out to Netflix for comment.
Netflix’s series will be an adaptation of the original Andrzej Sapkowski novels that formed the basis for CD Projekt’s long-running video game series. The series stars Henry Cavill (Justice League) as Geralt, alongside Freya Allan (The War of the Worlds, Bluebird) as Ciri and Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust, The ABC Murders) as Yennefer. The most recent update on the show came from this year’s San Diego Comic Con, where a brand new trailer was shown.
According to early reports, much of the narrative in the program will be based on The Last Wish, the first series of short stories in Sapkowski’s Witcher saga. It’s also the name of a sidequest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which also makes references to that same collection of short stories. But expect the television show to hew more towards the lore of the books rather than the video game.
