Some Borderlands 3 players are losing game progress after using the cloud save feature, according to posts on social media and reported by IGN. (Polygon faced similar issues while reviewing the game.)
Epic Games — which runs the Epic Games Store, where Borderlands 3 is being sold exclusively for PC — issued a hotfix on Monday afternoon for the cloud save problem that some players say has been deleting save progress. Though the bug may not be fully fixed, publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox Software are aware of the issue, which was outlined on the Epic website: Players using cloud saves for Borderlands 3 should see a pop-up to resolve any conflicts between the save states, according the help page. The team has reportedly identified a bug that’s keeping the pop-up screen from showing up, which is causing cloud saves to be overwritten.
Progress lost is “not recoverable,” according to the information on the help page.
“We understand just how frustrating this situation is for those who have been affected, so we’re working with our partners at Epic to monitor the situation and ensure the issue gets fully resolved,” a 2K representative told Polygon. “We’re listening closely to our community and players, and will continue to do all we can to ensure the best experience possible for everyone.”
The problem is reportedly only on cloud saves for PC players. Many have posted about their experience on social media, with multiple players reporting they’ve lost up to 12 hours of progress in Borderlands 3. Other players have taken to the Borderlands 2 forums on Steam to discuss the game’s performance issues. (Epic Games Store doesn’t have a forum.)
Borderlands 3 was released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One on Sept. 13.
