The sheer brilliance of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse still lingers. If you’re in need of your Spider-Verse fix and can’t quit get to Netflix right now, never fear: Spider-Ham is back in an animated short that’s finally made its way to YouTube.
Unlike the other Spider people, Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) isn’t exactly a person. He’s a pig — or rather, a spider transformed into a pig after being bitten by a radioactive pig (plot twist!). He lives in a zany animal-filled world, reminiscent of old Looney Toons shorts.
The movie, entitled “Caught in a Ham,” is an homage to the genre of visual gags and smart-talking animals. Peter Porker just wants to enjoy a hot dog, but finds himself facing the evil Doctor Crawdaddy. Hijinks ensue. Technically, it’s a prequel to Spider-Verse. Without spoiling too much, “Caught in a Ham” really smashes the fourth wall with a hammer.
As for more Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Sony has a planned sequel and spin-off focusing on the female Spider-characters in the works.
