Adam Sandler goes full force in the first Uncut Gems trailer

Serious Pacino vibes here

Uncut Gems might be the movie that finally nets Adam Sandler an Oscar. The hype is certainly there following the film’s premiere at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this year. Take a sneak peek for yourself with the first trailer, courtesy of A24.

The film, directed by Josh and Benny Safdie (Heaven Knows What, Good Time), stars Sandler as Howard “Howie” Ratner, a jeweler whose attempt at grabbing the brass ring comes along with the looming threat of a precarious fall. Idina Menzel co-stars as Dinah, Howie’s wife, with Lakeith Stanfield, Eric Bogosian, Judd Hirsch, and Pom Klementieff rounding out the supporting cast — not to mention supporting turns from Kevin Garnett and The Weeknd as themselves.

The Safdies, known for (often upsettingly) visceral, thrilling filmmaking, seem to have a hit on their hands, as the film was named one of the best at Toronto International Film Festival, with Sandler’s performance in particular singled out as making it a must-see.

Uncut Gems hits theaters on Dec. 13.
