Developer Virtual Basement and publisher Blue Isle are working on a Quidditch video game — though not technically Quidditch — called Broomstick League.
Broomstick League will enter early access “soon” on Steam, but the game will also be playable at TwitchCon 2019 from Sept. 27 to 29 in San Diego. Anyone vaguely familiar with the Harry Potter franchise should quickly grasp the concept: Two teams of wizards flying around on brooms compete to score goals. For those not familiar with Harry Potter, let me put it another way ... Rocket League minus cars, plus brooms and magic.
Different modes include teams of one, two, three, and four, with online matchmaking for each. Broomstick League will also have a number of magical arenas to zip around, some of which will apparently have “massive flying creatures” and “giant trolls” that may impact gameplay.
Players will also be able to customize their characters “with a deep pool of creative options,” according to the press release. There will be plenty of broomsticks and wands to unlock, as well as “a variety of taunts and dance moves” to mock your opponents with.
The developer’s shown off gameplay in the announcement trailer, and it looks pretty fun — what all wistful, wanna-be Quidditch players have dreamed of. There is an officially licensed Quidditch game, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, but it didn’t exactly take off.
