Death Stranding’s ‘very easy mode’ is for movie fans

Some folks may not be there for the gameplay

Death Stranding will have a “very easy” mode, and it’s specifically for folks who have heard all the fuss about the game, its story, and perhaps the big stars attached to it, but rarely play video games.

Director Hideo Kojima tweeted news of this yesterday, with a gentle poke at someone who isn’t very skilled on the sticks. “We added Very Easy mode for movie fans,” Kojima said, in light of the fact big stars like Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Rogue One) and Léa Seydoux (Inglorious Basterds, Spectre) have been cast in the story’s three main roles. Kojima’s very good friend Guillermo del Toro (writer and director, lots of cool stuff) is also attached to this picture.

Yikes! Poor Yano-san. (Kojima is probably referring to Kenji Yano, a staff writer at the studio and longtime collaborator.) For those who aren’t in the git-bad crowd, there will be normal and hard modes, so don’t worry about that.

Death Stranding’s big stars, out-there premise, and three years of hype preceding the PlayStation 4 exclusive have drawn plenty of attention, so there may be a constituency out there that just wants to understand what Kojima’s been going on about in the eclectic story teasers we’ve seen so far.

The game launches Nov. 8. There may be more gameplay video of it coming from Tokyo Game Show over the next week.
