Rage 2 is getting its first expansion, Rise of the Ghosts, on Sept. 26, publisher Bethesda announced this morning.
With the new content, players will have access to a new story and area — Overgrown City — and fight against the Ghosts faction, an enemy introduced in Rage, but that hasn’t debuted in Rage 2 before. A new weapon, the Feltrite Laser Launcher, will also be introduced alongside a new ability, Void, and a new vehicle, Ghost Motorcycle.
The Deluxe Edition of Rage 2 grants players immediate access to the expansion when it’s released on Sept. 26, but others will have to purchase it for 1,500 Rage coins — equal to $15. Upgrading to the Deluxe Edition costs 2,000 Rage coins, or $20, and gives players the DLC and a bunch of other stuff: “the Doom BFG, Wasteland Wizard Cheat Codes, Progress Booster, and the Battle Standard vehicle banner,” according to Bethesda.
Developers Avalanche Studios and id Software announced the expansion at Bethesda’s E3 press briefing. Rage 2 also gets weekly content updates, too.
The new ability in Rise of the Ghosts, Void, will let players target enemies to grab and “suspend them in the air ragdoll-style.” Using the Shatter, players can launch enemies, or “focus” the new ability to explode the enemy’s head, Bethesda described in the press release. Yes, like Rage 2, the expansion sounds chaotic and over-the-top. In fact, Bethesda described it as taking the game’s “insanity factor” from 11 to 12.
Rage 2 was released in May on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. The Rise of the Ghosts expansion is slated for Sept. 26 on all the same platforms.
