Westworld’s third season has a premiere date: March 15, 2020. HBO sent the news out tonight with a table-setting trailer that tells us how we got … uh, I guess will get there.
We’re seeing the pinwheeling alternate future timeline of the show’s setting, which is a little too close to home for some current events, and an important date in four years (and something really bad the year after that). But then it skips ahead to the show’s most important divergence, which finally reveals the time in which this is all set: The year 2058.
A news release from HBO bills season three as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the birth of a new form of life on Earth.” Returning stars include Thandie Newton as Maeve, Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores, Jeffrey Wright as Bernard, and Ed Harris as the Man in Black.
They’ll be joined by Aaron Paul, whose new character Caleb got a good closeup in the third-season trailer from San Diego Comic-Con 2019.
