Harry Potter fans have been waiting for a large-scale, open-world RPG where they can play their own witch or wizard, and it looks like one of the best avenues for that experience is coming to Minecraft, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated bunch of fans.

What makes this mod remarkable is that it’s far more than just a remake of the Hogwarts castle — although we do get shots of many familiar scenes, from the dining hall to the more forbidden corners of the school. This mod comes with gameplay, including the ability to learn spells, complete challenges, and even summon Patronuses in order to ward off deadly Dementors.

The map can be experienced alone or with friends, and it looks like players will be able to unlock progressively powerful kinds of magic to blink over platforms, cast powerful missiles, and manipulate their environments.

The mod goes beyond Hogwarts itself as well, including Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade as centers of commerce. Players will have access to their own inventories full of appropriately wizardly items that they can use to progress through the world. Even some of the more esoteric items, like screaming mandrake babies, are included in the mod with special gameplay effects.

The developers of this mod, Floo Network, are trying to release the mod before the end of January. The mod will be a free release, but fans can support the developers through Patreon.
