Dungeons & Dragons’ next sourcebook will immortalize the team from Critical Role, the massively popular actual-play role-playing series. Titled Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, the book is now available for pre-order on Amazon and at your friendly local game store. The $49.95 hardcover book will be released on Mar. 17.
Critical Role started in 2015, and has since grown to become D&D’s most popular performance experience. Led by voice actor Matthew Mercer, the show features a host of other talented actors including Ashley Johnson, Marisha Ray, Taliesin Jaffe, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Laura Bailey, and Liam O’Brien.
Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount provides everything you need to play Dungeons & Dragons on the continent of Wildemount (set within the world of Exandria) — a land of war, betrayal, and swashbuckling adventure.
“Wildemount provides endless potential for adventure in a land of brewing conflict and incredible magic,” reads the official product description. “Rising tensions boil over into all-out war between the politically dubious Dwendalian Empire and the light-worshiping wastefolk of Xhorhas, supplying a vibrant backdrop for any D&D campaign to explore.”
The book will include new subclasses, spells, magic items, and monsters able to be used in any D&D setting. It will also include four introductory adventures.
It’s another feather in the cap for the team from Critical Role, whose wildly successful Kickstarter campaign for an animated series started an important conversation about representation and economics in role-playing games. The cartoon has since been picked up by Amazon for its Prime streaming service.
