Mortal Kombat 11’s Rain forecast: cloudy with a chance of eyeballs

The Purple Prince returns in Kombat Pack 2

After a 10-year drought (as a playable fighter), Rain joins Mortal Kombat 11s roster on Nov. 17, via Kombat Pack 2. NetherRealm Studios dropped a gameplay trailer on Thursday morning (and immediately commented “First,” on its own upload) showcasing Rain’s hydroponic talents.

Here we see the Prince of Edenia throwing down, with Kotal Kahn catching most of the hands. Rain’s most frustrating ability is his defense, in which he turns to water as strikes and ranged attacks pass right through. On offense, that weapon is called a katar, and it’s actually got three blades, as his foe finds out the hard way.

Rain’s fatality: He summons a spinning saw blade that, despite being made of water, quarters Kahn and pops out his eyeballs, which Rain triumphantly displays. Start your day right with a bowl of Kotal!

Rain was last playable in Mortal Kombat, the 2011 reboot on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. He was revealed last week, alongside Mileena and special guest star Rambo as the Kombat Pack 2 characters coming to the game. Also on Nov. 17, Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate launches; that includes the 2019 game, its first Kombat Pack of six fighters, and the Aftermath expansion that added another three fighters in May.

Mortal Kombat 11 owners on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One may upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions for free. The game is also available on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.
