Call of Duty: Warzone season 6 started earlier this week and players are already noticing a few quirks with one of the season’s new guns. The AS VAL, a rifle with a built-in suppressor, seems a little too strong at the moment — mostly because it’s killing people through walls.
Now, Call of Duty has long had bullet penetration as a feature. This means in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone you’re supposed to be able to shoot other players through fairly thin walls. However, there’s also supposed to be a limit to how many walls your bullets can penetrate, and bullets that pass through other surfaces are supposed to do less damage when they hit. The AS VAL is doing neither of those things — at least when it’s equipped with its SPP rounds attachment.
Instead, Warzone’s new weapon can go through several walls with almost no damage reduction whatsoever. In fact, most of the time the hardest part of using the weapon is knowing where the enemies you need to shoot are, but players have already found a solution to that as well thanks to Warzone’s Snapshot grenades.
These grenades explode in a small radius and reveal any enemies inside, even through walls. That effect, combined with the AS VAL’s SPP rounds, mean that anyone who wants to can wander around Warzone with a legal wall hack. Unfortunately, there’s really no way to respond to this either. The weapon does so much damage, that the fight is over relatively quickly. You can’t even return fire unless you have an AS VAL yourself, because most guns won’t be able to punch through the necessary walls.
Based on all the gameplay clips we’ve seen so far, it seems like this is certainly a bug. In that case, you should expect Infinity Ward to try to get it under control in the very near future. But for now you can jump into Warzone or Modern Warfare and enjoy the feeling of being a hacker... without any of the actual cheating.
