Titanfall wall-running comes to Apex Legends with Halloween event

Fight or Fright event gets started on Thursday

Apex Legends“Fight or Fright” Halloween celebration is back again. Shadow Royale, a new limited-time mode, is a variation on last year’s event, in which killing an opponent meant you also had to deal with them as a swift-moving, tear-your-ass-up undead ghost.

In a twist, the swift-moving, tear-your-ass-up undead ghosts can run alongside walls, which should be fun for anyone trying to stay alive. It’s like Shadowfall in 2019, with everyone running around trying to keep their living Legends revived and finishing off the other team. Once a team’s living fighters have been snuffed out, they lose.

Wall-running, a staple of the Titanfall universe in which Apex Legends is set, has had effectively no presence in this game since its February 2019 launch. Players can ascend walls vertically but can’t move across them horizontally, as the trailer above shows. Respawn itself coyly acknowledged wall-running’s debut as “certain ... mobility enhancements” in Tuesday’s blog post.

Shadow Royale returns to the Kings Canyon After Dark map. The Fight or Fright event progresses along a 4,000 point Prize Track, giving out XP boosts, skins, Stat Trackers, and a weapon charm. “Resurrected cosmetics” means the looks from last year make an encore, with slight changes. These reimagined threads include Bloodhound’s “Wicked Harvest” jack-o-lantern costume and Caustic’s evil-clown getup.

Fight or Fright will run until Nov. 3, and is available on all platforms, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. Apex Legends is a free-to-play game.
