New Destiny 2: Beyond Light documentary highlights the series’ newest villains

Bungie latest ViDoc has arrived

On Tuesday morning, Bungie unleashed a “ViDoc” for Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Year 4. The 15 min video features socially distant Bungie devs previewing and teasing upcoming content for the next year of Destiny 2.

The video starts off talking about where Guardians have been with Season of Arrivals and then leads into the story setup of Beyond Light. The video then takes players to Europa, where Eris Morn, The Drifter, and the Exo Stranger are hanging out. Players haven’t seen the Exo Stranger since the end of the original Destiny’s first campaign. But game director Luke Smith promises players some answers from the Exo Stranger, and that they’ll will finally get to know her as she encourages them to embrace the Darkness.

A group of devs then takes players under the ice of Europa, where they promise lots of secrets. The devs namedrop Clovis Bray — father of Ana Bray and likely father of the Exo Stranger — and some lore about the creation of the Exos. Players then get a few clips of what looks to be the Deep Stone Crypt raid coming in Beyond Light.

The video also shows off a new dynamic weather system, which will bombard the players with snowstorms throughout their adventure. The devs then move on to Eramis, the big-bad in Destiny 2: Beyond Light, before talking about the new Stasis powers.

Bungie goes on to preview the updated version of the Cosmodrome, including a look at its new vendor and map.

Senior design lead Lars Bakken casually drops the name of the new season launching alongside Beyond Light: Season of the Hunt. Bungie also mentions Xivu Arath, the lesser known of Oryx the Taken King’s two sisters, saying she’s amassing an army with the new Darkness powers. Players will work alongside Osiris to stop Xivu’s new movement in the story. During Season of the Hunt, players will also run into Uldren Sov, going by a new name: The Crow.

Bungie ends the ViDoc teasing Savathun — Oryx’s other sister — as a major villain over Year 4 and into Year 5.

Bungie will launch Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt on Nov. 10. Destiny 2 will see a next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on Dec. 8.
