This dungeon crawler’s horny dungeon is getting a jiggle physics update

Going Under is a satirical dungeon crawling game released in September where you play as an unpaid intern who explores the ruins of failed start-ups. One of these start-ups is Winkydink, a dating app much like the real-world’s Tinder, except in this case, you can only communicate via emojis. This is where the eggplant comes in.

Obviously, the eggplant is an infamous emoji within romance — but also a weapon, at least in this world. Going Under doesn’t call them eggplants, though. Instead, they are “Low Hanging Fruit,” both a pun and a reference to the fact these weapons can be found on the ceiling of the Winkydink ruins.

Right now, if you equip an eggplant, it will work the way you’d expect. But at some point in the future, the developers at Aggro Crab Games say they’re going to update the weapon to have jiggle physics, like so:

The eggplants won’t be the only beneficiaries. Going Under also happens to have body pillow weapons, which an actual artist, pyawakit, designed to be as horny as possible. You can also equip a boyfriend pillow, which are shaped to look like the side of a person’s body, for a more realistic hug. Weapons like these will eventually be tweaked to move a little more realistically, the developer said.

“Frankly that was mostly of a mistake on my part not to put in jiggle physics sooner,” Nick Kaman, art director on Going Under, told Polygon over Twitter. While there’s no set time frame for when this update will happen, he notes that when it does, the physics won’t change how the items work. It’ll just be a visual gag.

Really, the entire dungeon riffs off the concept of a failed dating app stupendously well.

“We started with sexy succubus enemies, from the Winkubus who will ‘ghost’ you with a teleport if you deal enough damage to her, to the chad Dinkubus with different telegraphs on his swipe-left and swipe-right attacks,” Kaman said. These monsters happen to be ex-employees. Grim!

Perhaps the silliest bit about all of this is that, while the larger idea was home-grown, the developers went on to find that someone has actually made an emoji dating app as a gag. Unsurprisingly, that idea has now been shuttered. This, it turns out, happened more than once during development.

“[It’s] a constant problem with our game’s concept in that we will never be able to out-ridiculous the real world!” Kaman said.

Whenever an official update gets announced, Aggro Crab Games hopes to expand the campaign and add more replayability — but for now, eager fans will have to wait. Going Under is out for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC.
