Animal Crossing’s big winter update adds new holidays events and more home storage

New reactions, hairstyles, and save data transfer coming too

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ next update is coming on Nov. 19 — and it’s adding seasonal festivities, like Turkey Day and Toy Day, to the game. The free update will also add a few new Reactions, hairstyles, and the ability to transfer saved data. There’s plenty to be excited for in this update, with another scheduled for late January. (New Year’s-themed, naturally.)

Players will be able to partake in the Turkey Day activities on Nov. 26, with Toy Day coming on Dec. 24 — aligned with Thanksgiving and Christmas.

On Turkey Day, Franklin — a turkey chef — will visit and help create a feast in the plaza. Players will have to bring him ingredients, and Nintendo said Franklin will give a gift for helping. Of course, the whole thing looks very seasonally appropriate, too.

Toy Day (Animal Crossing’s answer to Christmas) is for gift giving, but plenty of festive decorations will be spread across the island, too — apparently becoming more and more festive leading up to the big day. Ornaments can be collected, by shaking trees, to create holiday stuff. Toys and holiday clothing will also be available as part of the event.

Here are the full details, straight from Nintendo:

Turkey Day – On Turkey Day, which will take place this year on Nov. 26, the first-class chef Franklin will arrive and host a gathering in the plaza. You can help Franklin collect ingredients to go in the dishes that will be on display in the plaza. You can even receive a gift from Franklin as a thank you for helping him cook.

Toy Day – It’s the time of the year when island residents rejoice … The month of Toy Day is nearly at hand! You might notice your island and plaza gradually becoming more festive with holiday-themed decorations over the coming weeks. Keep an eye out for decorated trees, too. Shaking these may drop ornaments which will allow you to craft holiday furniture recipes. From Dec. 1 to Dec. 25, you’ll be able to purchase toys from Nook’s Cranny and find holiday-themed clothing at the Able Sisters shop. When it’s officially Toy Day on Dec. 24, Jingle will pay a special visit to your island to spread holiday cheer. If you help him deliver presents, you’ll also receive a gift!

Elsewhere in the update, Nintendo plans to add nine new Reactions (Sitting!!), all of which are redeemable through the Nook Stop terminal. Six new hairstyle options will be available there, too — a noticeable increase to the number of BIPOC-specific hair options.

Home storage will be expanded to 2,400 slots, finally. The other thing players will be very excited for, too, is save data transfers ... which means players will be able to move their game to another Nintendo Switch.

The update will be added free on Nov. 19.
