Sharkboy and Lavagirl sequel’s first trailer is pure chaotic energy

We Can Be Heroes is out Jan. 1

Robert Rodriquez’s follow-up to is 2005 classic The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D will hit Netflix on Jan. 1, but Netflix just dropped its first teaser trailer on Thursday. Welcome to the New Year! Here’s some pure, chaotic energy with Rodriquez’s We Can Be Heroes.

The trailer stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Ms. Granada, who’s described as a “mysterious government babysitter.” You see, aliens have kidnapped the superheroes of Earth, and the superhero children now need looking after. The kids, of course, fight back against their caretaker — she does have an evil look in her eye — to save their parents. Naturally, superhero kids have superpowers, like elasticity, time control, and ... a water-based shark?

Sharkboy and Lavagirl will appear in the film, but only Taylor Dooley is reprising her role. On Wednesday, we sadly learned there’s a Taylor Lautner replacement as Sharkboy.

Pedro Pascal also stars in We Can Be Heroes, as a superhero dad, alongside Boyd Holbrook, Christian Slater, Chris McDonald, and Adriana Barraza.
