Sackboy: A Big Adventure is apparently coming in hot for next week’s PlayStation 5 launch, and will not ship with online cooperative multiplayer, according to an update from the game’s design director.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to delay the full online multiplayer functionality within Sackboy: A Big Adventure,” Ned Waterhourse from developer Sumo Digital said on the PlayStation Blog. “The team have been working hard to ensure that online is the very best experience it can be for players and we just need a little more time to get it right so you can enjoy it to the fullest with your friends and family.”

Waterhouse says that online multiplayer will be added to Sackboy: A Big Adventure “by end of 2020.” That update will also include cross-generation multiplayer for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and game save transfers from PS4 to PS5.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure will support multiplayer for two to four players, but on launch day, Nov. 12, that will be limited to local co-op. For more on Sackboy’s next adventure, read our interview with Ned Waterhouse.
