Horizon Forbidden West targets late 2021 launch for PlayStation 5

Other exclusives — Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet and Clank —expected in the first half

Horizon Forbidden West is now looking at a launch in the latter part of 2021. Previously, Sony had set expectations only for sometime in the next year.

The release window comes as a detail in a trailer Sony Interactive Entertainment put out Monday, outlining the major video game launches that will support the PlayStation 5. Horizon Forbidden West is given a fine-print “anticipated second half 2021” designation in the trailer, where others are mentioned as “anticipated first half 2021.”

Horizon Forbidden West follows Guerrilla Games’ widely acclaimed 2017 adventure Horizon Zero Dawn, exclusive to the PlayStation 4. The sequel was announced this summer.

The first game sold very well — more than 10 million copies worldwide, making it one of the PS4’s best-performing exclusive titles. Ashly Burch and Lance Reddick will return as Aloy and Sylens, as the story moves from the interior West of 31st-century America to the Pacific Coast.
