Watch Back 4 Blood’s first trailer, from the original Left 4 Dead team

The game comes out this summer

The team behind Back 4 Blood, the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead franchise, showed up during The Game Awards Thursday night with a brand new trailer. The game is set to release June 22, 2021 on PlayStation, Windows, and Xbox devices. The alpha begins on Dec. 17.

Turtle Rock Studios, which also made Evolve, includes members of the original team behind Left 4 Dead. Developers say their next game will include everything fans have been asking for. That means the same kind of cooperative action that that made their previous titles so much fun, plus more playable characters, more missions, more variety, and more enemies.

The team showed off a lengthy gameplay trailer, which highlighted one of those new enemies — a 20-foot tall monstosity with devastating melee attacks.

Of note is the fact that this appears to be a cross-generational title. An end card on the trailer calls out PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Fans should expect more during a developer stream on Dec. 17, which fans can watch starting at 10 am PT on the Turtle Rock Studios Twitch, YouTube and Facebook.
