Over a year after Disney acquired the rights to Fantastic Four, the superhero family is joining the MCU with their own film. Disney announced the new film during its quarterly investor call on Thursday, along with a short video teaser.
While Kevin Feige didn’t share many details about the movie during the 2020 Disney Investors Day, he was able to let fans know who the director would be. Fantastic Four will be directed by MCU veteran director Jon Watts, who has previously directed both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home, as well as the upcoming third film in the Spider-Man MCU series.

The choice of someone with so much experience directing for Marvel is hardly a surprise, considering how the last few Fantastic Four films have gone. Fox’s first attempt at bringing the superhero family to the big screens came back in 2005. Slightly more infamously, Fox and director Josh Trank disagreed over the direction of the studio’s 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, resulting in one of the most derided superhero movies of the last decade.
Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly when Fantastic Four will be released, as all Feige has revealed for now is that it is in development.
