Watch Sephiroth’s Super Smash Bros. gameplay debut

The One-Winged Angel comes to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate soon

Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7 is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, much to the delight and astonishment of Nintendo fans. Nintendo revealed the latest addition to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster at The Game Awards last week, promising to divulge more about the “One-Winged Angel” in a follow-up video hosted by game director Masahiro Sakurai.

Sakurai’s deep dive into Sephiroth for Smash Bros. will debut on Thursday at 5 p.m. EST/2 p.m. PST. You can watch it live via YouTube in the video above. As with previous Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter presentations, like Minecraft’s Steve and Alex and Arms’ Min Min, expect Sakurai to spend 30 minutes or more explaining how Sephiroth will play (and what other content he’s bringing with him) when he comes to the Nintendo Switch fighting game.

Nintendo says we can also expect a release date for Sephiroth during Thursday’s presentation.

Sephiroth will be the third character included as part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Fighters Pass Vol. 2. All six characters in that pass — plus new stages and music — will be released for Ultimate by Dec. 31, 2021, Sakurai said during a Nintendo Direct Mini presentation in January. The first Fighters Pass added Joker from Persona 5, Hero from the Dragon Quest series, Banjo and Kazooie, Terry from Fatal Fury/The King of Fighters, and Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses to Ultimate as paid content.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released on Nintendo Switch in December 2018. It’s one of the best games on Nintendo’s handheld console.
