If you’ve ever wondered what Pathfinder’s life was like before the Apex Games, Respawn Entertainment now has an answer. The game’s latest Stories from the Outlands video, called Fight Night, is all about the murderous and cheerful robot and gives us some idea of where he came from and what he’s been up to between his creation and his arrival in Apex Legends.
Despite mostly being about Pathfinder, Fight Night’s actual main character is an ex-cop named Victor Maldera, who now works as a security guard and amateur detective. Victor was dishonorably discharged from the police force in Malta following the closure of his final case. The case revolved around a tragic fire at Humbert Labs. The Malta police deemed the fire an accident, but Victor believed it was caused by Alexander Nox.
When the coroner announced that Nox had been among the victims of the fire, Victor attacked the him and was fired from the police force. Years later, working as a security guard, Victor is still hunting for Nox, who he believes is alive. Of course, sharp-eyed Apex Legends fans will recognize Nox — either by name or hairstyle — as none other than Caustic, one of the game’s original Legends, so we know for a fact that Victor’s on the right track.

One night, just as Victor’s giving up on his search for Nox, he runs into Pathfinder who is working as a waiter at a restaurant. After a mishap that involves a customer accidentally shooting themselves, Victor grabs Pathfinder and tries to interrogate him, only to see a video file of Caustic escaping from the Humbert Labs fire, thus proving that he set it and that Victor was right the whole time.
Also among these memory files, we see small snippets of important Apex Legends stories like Revenant assassinating Loba’s parents. There’s also a brief clip of Pathfinder’s creator who explains that he was designed to discover new worlds like the Outlands — who is a French scientist and could have some relation to Wattson.
It’s not worth spoiling the action that comes after, but in the end we get to see what happened to Pathfinder and what seems to the be start of his journey toward the Apex Games.
This trailer is pretty heavy on story and seems to connect Pathfinder to many of the other Legends competing in the Apex Games. But it’s not quite clear if we should expect this Stories from the Outlands short to tie directly into any upcoming content or not. Perhaps Victor, who seems to be an amateur boxer in his spare time, will make his way to the Apex Games? But even if he doesn’t, Fight Night is still one of Apex Legends best ever animated shorts.
