Rest in pieces, (statue) Kazooie of Banjo Kazooie

Truly tragic

Julia Lee (she/her) is a guides producer, writing guides for games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Genshin Impact. She helped launch the Rift Herald in 2016.

It appears that the Kazooie statue from the Rare Limited studio in the United Kingdom was claimed by Storm Ciara, according to recent tweets from the studio’s official account.

Storm Ciara is an extratropical cyclone that hit Europe over the weekend, knocking out power, canceling flights, and causing serious damage. Rare notes that the studio is fine, but Kazooie, unfortunately, is not.

“The studio got by unscathed but #StormCiara did claim a few casualties on its way through the Rare grounds yesterday. Thanks weather!” Rare said via Twitter, complete with photos of uprooted trees and the sad, broken bird statue.

Many fans in the replies are hoping that Kazooie can be repaired and are mourning the loss of the lovely bird. Others are (jokingly) blaming Conker for the massacre. A chunk of the replies are using the loss of the statue as an excuse to ask for a new Banjo-Kazooie game.

Kazooie discourse has already been weird lately, with Yooka-Laylee developers Playtonic Games’ tweeting that Kazooie is always pregnant, a claim that quickly went viral and inspired some spirited debate about the nature of birds and eggs.

Fortunately, despite the lack of new Banjo-Kazooie games, you can still play as the duo in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch. Banjo and Kazooie can be bought for $5.99, or as part of the Fighters Pass for $24.99.
