Fans of Dreamcast cult classic rhythm game Space Channel 5 will be able to revisit the stylish dance-’em-up later this month, thanks to developer Grounding’s remake for PlayStation VR (a PC version is also in the works with support for HTC Vive, SteamVR, and Oculus Quest).
Space Channel 5 returns this month
Ulala’s coming to PlayStation VR, with a PC version coming later
Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! will be released for PlayStation 4 on Feb. 25. The game will cost $39.99.
The virtual reality version of Space Channel 5 sends rookie reporter Ulala to space to cover an alien invasion — one planned by her channel’s boss to boost ratings — and players will take on the role of a viewer. They’ll dance and pose, using PlayStation Move controllers, to rally fellow dancers and fight off the Morolian alien menace.
In addition to the main story mode, Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! will include an arcade mode for “recommended for VR beginners;” an exercise and endurance mode; a viewing mode that lets players watch the story from multiple camera angles; and non-gameplay modes, like a character viewer and dressing room where players can swap Ulala’s unlockable outfits.
Space Channel 5’s VR re-release was unveiled back in 2016. Then known as Space Channel 5 VR Ukiuki Viewing Show, the game was originally developed for HTC Vive.
