Minions: Rise of Gru, a sequel to 2015’s Minions, which itself is a prequel to the Despicable Me franchise, just got a trailer for its upcoming trailer. The Super Bowl trailer for a trailer gives some brief looks at what’s to come in the groovy 1970s set sequel — and also a look at young Gru!
Minions: Rise of Gru follows the minions after their escapades in England in the first Minions movie, wherein they helped snazzy villain Scarlet Overkill become Queen of England but ended up accidentally pissing her off because, you know, they’re kinda annoying and she misinterpreted their blunders as deliberate sabotages. But we already knew that Scarlet wasn’t the minions forever home — enter Gru, the evil scientist who stars in the actual Despicable Me movies.
Except this movie is about child Gru! Baby Gru, which is fitting considering we just saw a Baby Nut born from Mr. Peanut’s mangled corpse. All good times.
The trailer for Minions: Rise of Gru premieres this Wednesday. Minions: Rise of Gru comes out July 3.
