Polygon’s daily news show debuts April 6 on Quibi

Speedrun by Polygon, hosted by Jimmy Mondal

Simone de Rochefort has been producing & hosting YouTube videos for Polygon since 2016. She co-directed the upcoming documentary The Great Game: The Making of Spycraft.

Guess what, folks: When the mobile-first streaming app Quibi launches on April 6, Polygon will be right there with a snappy new daily news show! Now we’re officially announcing that show’s name: Speedrun (officially, Speedrun by Polygon, but y’all know what site you’re on).

That’s right — we’re bringing back the name, but in a whole new format. Every weekday, you can expect a jam-packed five to seven minutes of gaming news delivered to the Quibi app on your phone. Speedrun will give you insightful cultural deep dives into the biggest trending topics, with expert analysis, exclusives, recommendations, and more. It joins a lineup of Quibi shows from NBC, the BBC, and ESPN, as well as many more.

But I’m most excited to introduce you to our host, Jimmy Mondal. Jimmy is an expert who’s deeply passionate about video games and esports. He launched and produced Cheddar Esports, and he’s hosted many an esports event. Mondal also appeared on Hasan Minhaj’s Patriot Act, and lent his voice to New York’s own Overwatch team, NYXL.

“Games have been a pillar of my life since I was a child,” says Jimmy. “From playing games with my siblings growing up, to providing commentary on the largest esports titles and hosting multiple gaming shows, it’s an absolute dream to bring Polygon’s daily news and community updates to the Quibi audience.”

We needed someone like Jimmy, because this is going to be a huge year for video games. We’re looking at two major console launches, as well as highly anticipated games like The Last of Us Part 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Jimmy and the whole Speedrun team have their work cut out for them.

So check out Speedrun by Polygon when it launches on April 6, and tune in every day after that, because we’ll be there with your daily dose of news. If you sign up before April 6, you’ll unlock a free 90-day trial of the service, which will feature 50 shows, including ours. Those shows consist of daily essentials, as well as movies and unscripted shows on food, travel, comedy, and more. Find out more on Quibi’s website!
