Turns out, Resident Evil 3’s safe rooms are still safe

OK, I guess there is somewhere to hide

OK, so ... Resident Evil 3’s safe rooms are safe after all. The sanctuary of the game’s safe rooms — just like they were in Resident Evil 2 — will be off-limits to Nemesis, though he will be able to break down doors to get to Jill Valentine.

The confusion began after the Official Xbox Magazine outlined an encounter with Nemesis in a room with a “progress-saving typewriter,” the editor said. It was mistaken for a safe room, but apparently there will be clues “in the music” and elsewhere to determine where’s safe and where’s not.

A Capcom representative confirmed to Polygon that Nemesis cannot enter safe rooms. And now we can all breathe a sigh of relief. Nemesis, the hulking bioweapon who can now wield a flamethrower, is still terrifying, but there will be reprieve. I think I just heard the whole internet let out that sigh.

Official Xbox Magazine said it’ll have “more confirmation” next week on “just how big a threat the Nemesis poses in Resident Evil 3.” Spoiler alert! I think it’s pretty big.

Resident Evil 3 will be released April 3 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. Can’t wait to be chased by Nemesis — but definitely not into the safe room!

Correction: GamesRadar+ and the Official Xbox Magazine have issued a correction that Nemesis is not actually able to break into safe rooms. This article has been updated to reflect that information.
