DreamWorks’ animated series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts will return to Netflix on June 12th.
The show takes place in a lush post-apocalyptic world where nature has taken over and mutated animals roam the world. Most humans have taken to underground shelters known as Burrows, though a select few remain on the surface. The show follows Kipo (Karen Fukuhara), a Burrow girl who gets separated from her community, and teams up with fierce warrior Wolf, aspiring DJ Benson, and talking bug Dave in hopes of surviving long enough to get back home. The series uses vibrant animation and funky music to showcase the tensions and relationships between the humans and the mutant creatures above.
If you didn’t get a chance to watch Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts when it debuted in January, now’s the perfect time. The writers and showrunners are hosting watch parties on Netflix Party every Saturday, answering questions from fans, and offering behind-the-scenes info.
Here’s the description of season 2. Spoilers ahead for season 1!
Following the season one finale, all is not well on the surface. With the burrow people under Scarlemagne’s mind control and her father his prisoner, Kipo must quickly learn to master her newly-discovered mute abilities in order to save them. As she and her friends split up on a dangerous rescue mission, Kipo’s journey of self discovery unearths mysteries of the past that change everything she thought she knew.
