Keke Palmer proves she has the chops to join the Muses in Hercules with her cover of ‘Zero to Hero’

Halsey does The Little Mermaid, Josh Gad does Frozen, and Idina Menzel does ... Aladdin?

ABC’s Disney Family Singalong returned this Mother’s Day bringing a new roster of celebrities to belt their hearts out to their favorite Disney songs. This time around Halsey sported red hair and sang Little Mermaid classic “Part of Your World,” John Legend and Jennifer Hudson crooned “Beauty and the Beast,” and Josh Gad recreated Frozen 2’s earworm, “When I Am Older.”

But the best performance of the night easily goes to Keke Palmer and the dancers of Dancing With the Stars, who banded together to recreate the show-stopping midway number from Hercules, “Zero to Hero.” Within the context of the movie, the Muses sing the tune when Hercules transitions from wimpy nobody to acclaimed hero. He’s buff now! He saves lives! He has a merch deal!

As Palmer belts the song in a very Muse-like dress, the Dancing With the Stars cast does some impressive costume changes and dance movies. Sidebar — how many of the Dancing With the Stars cast are quarantining together?

This comes right at the heels of the announcement of a live-action Hercules — and right after Ariana Grande’s stunning performance of “I Won’t Say I’m In Love.” Could we be watching casting for this unfold beyond our very eyes?

(Wrong Disney movie, but you get my drift).

Other notable performances of the night include Katy Perry dressed in an elephant costume and crooning “Baby Mine” from Dumbo to her dog (also dressed in an elephant costume) against a montage of Disney moms and Disney mom-figures (the latter necessary since loads of Disney heroes just ... don’t have moms).

Anika Noni-Rose — aka Princess Tiana herself — did a rendition of Princess and the Frog’s “Almost There” with R&B duo Chloe x Halle (Halle is playing Ariel in the upcoming live action Little Mermaid), reminding us all just how underrated the music in Princess and the Frog is.

Shakira performed her fursona’s song “Try Everything” from Zootopia; Disney Broadway stars crooned Tarzan’s “You’ll Be in My Heart”; and Idina Menzel and Ben Platt dueted to “A Whole New World.”
