On Tuesday, Bungie launched a new quest inside Destiny 2. Called “The Lie,” the quest tasks the community with completing 9,000,000 Seraph Tower public events across three different planets. The reward is presumably the beloved Felwinter’s Lie shotgun from the original Destiny. But only 28 hours into the quest, Bungie issued an emergency hotfix to lower the requirements.
A little over 28 hours after “The Lie’s” in-game debut, players have completed 6% of the 3,000,000 public events on The EDZ, and 1% on both Io and the Moon. Without Bungie intervention, and assuming players kept up this pace, it would likely take over a month for the community to complete. Unfortunately, the Seraph Tower public event goes away when the new Destiny 2 season starts in about 27 days, on June 9.
To speed up completion, Bungie made a few changes to both the public event itself and “The Lie” quest. Effective immediately, the Champions at the end of the public event will spawn at a lower power level than before, and the event will progress slightly differently. “The Lie” quest will also progress much faster now, as each completion has a 5x multiplier during the week, and a 10x multiplier during the weekend.
We have made adjustments to “The Lie” Quest and Seraph Tower Difficulty.

With this change, players will likely complete the event in a matter of days. This change comes after popular streamers like SayNoToRage were advocating players to boycott the event. Fans have already flocked to Bungie’s Twitter account — where the studio made the hotfix announcement — to thank the developers for the speedy change.
Once Guardians complete this portion of “The Lie,” there are several steps left to go.
Update (May 17): Players completed the community part of the quest Sunday night, and can now complete The Lie.
Update 2 (May 17): The final step of the quest is currently bugged. According to Bungie community manager, dmg04, players who spawn in at Eris during “The Tyrant” mission are in a bugged instance, and unable to complete the quest. The studio will look into the issue into the issue on Monday morning.
After trying multiple times ourselves, we don’t believe it’s currently possible to complete the quest for Felwinter’s Lie.
If you're respawned at Eris when interacting with the Lie quest node on the Moon, you're in a bugged state.

Will investigate first thing in the morning, and get you updates asap.
If you're getting through this step without issue, let us know.
Update 3 (May 21): Bungie has issued a hotfix and players can finally complete “The Lie” for the Felwinter’s Lie shotgun. Here’s our guide, updated for the final step of the mission, if you’re having trouble.
