Director Spike Lee’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman is Da 5 Bloods. The film, which will debut on Netflix, focuses on a group of Vietnam War veterans (played by Norm Lewis, Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) who return to Vietnam in search of the remains of their squad leader (Chadwick Boseman) as well as possible buried treasure.
The first trailer reveals that flashbacks and present-day footage will be distinguished by changing aspect ratios, and introduces characters played by BlacKkKlansman actors Paul Walter and Jasper Pääkkönen. The trailer also features a prominent reference to Francis Ford Coppola’s infamous Vietnam War movie Apocalypse Now, as the older veterans are seen partying under the film’s logo — and a giant Budweiser sign.
The film also stars Jonathan Majors as the son of Lindo’s character, who tags along out of concern.
Da 5 Bloods premieres on Netflix on June 12.
