If the news of the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel has you raring to watch Charlize Theron kick ass and take names, then you’re in luck, as The Old Guard, in which she plays an immortal mercenary named Andromache of Scythia, is on its way.
Based on Greg Rucka’s comic book and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights), the film centers on a group of similarly unkillable mercenaries rounded up by Andromache (or Andy, as she’s now called) who, in the 21st century, discover that keeping their secret safe is harder than they’d thought. As they fight against an organization that seeks to take advantage of their powers, they come to recruit Nile (KiKi Layne) as the latest member of the team.
The trailer shows just how immortal they are, as the team survives a rain of gunfire, and a wound on Nile’s arm quickly heals. Despite close call after close call, it seems as though Andy’s description of the five of them as an “army” isn’t actually that far off the mark.
Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Luca Marinelli star as the rest of Andy’s team, with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Harry Melling among those pursuing them.
The Old Guard will debut on Netflix on July 10.
