Two games are available for free this week on the Epic Games Store: Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, packaged together in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. It’s replacing Sid Meier’s Civilization 6, which was available for the past week. Before that, Grand Theft Auto 5 was free — and that broke the Epic Games Store.
Games are available free weekly on Epic Games’ platform. This practice has been going on since 2019, but the games over the past couple weeks have been notably bigger. The Epic Games Store is currently running a promo called the “Mega Sale,” which this is a part of. In addition to the free games, people can expect discounts of up to 75%.
Publisher 2K Games released Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in 2015. It brought both games to current-gen consoles, transferring saves over from the older generation as long as they were within the same console family. Borderlands 2 was originally released in 2012 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Mac, and Windows PC. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel came out in 2014 — it’s set after the first Borderlands, but before Borderlands 2.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will be available on the Epic Games Store for free until June 4, when another game will take its place. On Steam, the game is currently selling for $59.80.
