Racing games are always popular showcases for powerhouse consoles and Dirt 5’s impressive reveal was no different. The trailer debuted during Microsoft’s Inside Xbox event, where it showed off the Xbox Series X’s next-gen gameplay for the first time.
The Dirt 5 trailer showed off graphical power of the upcoming console, as well as plenty of rally car racing. The trailer starts off with rally cars flying down a rain-slicked track before swapping to Dirt’s more familiar fair of off-road racing. All the standard bumping and jockeying for positions is here including a particularly impressive section of racing on a dirt track that’s turned to mud.
In an interview segment after the trailer reveal, Codemasters revealed that the game would also feature the option for players to choose between 4K 60 FPS and a 120 FPS option. The developer also discussed the game’s incredibly quick loads thanks to the power of the Xbox Series X.
The Dirt series, which focuses on off-road rally car racing, has been around since the late ’90s. Since the first entry, which was called Colin McRae Rally, the series has been developed by the English studio Codemasters, which is also behind Dirt 5. Dirt 5 is the first numbered sequel in the series since Dirt 4 in 2017, however Codemasters has released other spinoff games more recently like last year’s Dirt Rally 2.0.
Dirt 5 will be released on Xbox Series X sometime in October 2020.
